General Info |
|
Helichryum
common names imphepho (Xhosa, Zulu) and everlastings
(English) are used to treat many ailments, including coughs,
colds, fever, infections, headache and menstrual pain.
It is a popular ingredient for wound dressing.
Pain-relieving, anti-infective and anti-inflammatory activities
have been reported for several Helichrysum species.
There are several different ways of administering these
traditional medicines. For coughs and colds, a tea is
prepared or the leaves are boiled in milk. For pain relief,
smoke from burning leaves is inhaled. |
