Lotus or Sacred Blue
Lily of the Nile) was the most sacred
plant of Ancient Egypt and was prized as a symbol
of creation and rebirth.
The blue
lotus was used amongst the upper classes
in Egypt, historical references indicate usage as
visionary plant, rejuvenator and aphrodisiac. The
most common depiction of Nymphaea
caerulea was as a symbol of the origin
of life. Blue lotus’s
was frequently depicted in works of art, where it
is depicted as what seems either a tool or decorative
symbol at parties, orgies and other social gatherings.
The flowers of Nymphaea
caerulea have become a rarity and
is much sought after in the entheogenic sub-culture.
